Situated on the banks of the sacred River Ganga, Haridwar literally means "Gateway to Lord Vishnu (Hari)" and is regarded as one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Hinduism. Chandi Devi Temple

Your first visit is to the famous Chandi Devi Temple, one of Haridwar's most revered Shakti Peeths. Perched atop Neel Parvat, the temple offers magnificent panoramic views of Haridwar, the flowing Ganga and the surrounding hills. Devotees can reach the temple either by ropeway (cable car) or by trekking approximately 3 kilometres from Chandi Ghat.

Dedicated to Goddess Chandi, the temple is believed to mark the place where the Goddess defeated the demons Chanda and Munda. Thousands of devotees visit every year to seek blessings for courage, protection and prosperity.

Bharat Mata Temple

Continue to the unique Bharat Mata Temple, unlike any other temple in India. Spread across eight floors, the temple is dedicated to Mother India and honours the country's rich heritage, great saints, freedom fighters, legendary heroes and cultural traditions. Each floor represents a different aspect of India's glorious history, making it both a spiritual and educational attraction.

Shantikunj Ashram

Later visit Shantikunj Ashram, the spiritual headquarters of the All World Gayatri Pariwar. Evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri

As sunset approaches, proceed to the sacred Har Ki Pauri, the most revered bathing ghat in Haridwar and the spiritual heart of the city.

Witness the world-famous Ganga Aarti, one of the most divine experiences of the Char Dham Yatra. As priests dressed in traditional attire perform synchronized rituals with large brass lamps, the entire riverfront comes alive with the sound of temple bells, devotional chants, conch shells and Vedic hymns. Thousands of illuminated oil lamps float gently on the waters of the River Ganga, creating an unforgettable spiritual atmosphere.

The town is located along the banks of the Yamuna River and offers stunning views of the snow-clad peaks, including the impressive Bandarpoonch Mountain on clear days.

Yamunotri Temple
Located at an altitude of approximately 3,293 metres, Yamunotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the goddess of the sacred River Yamuna. The shrine is beautifully nestled amidst towering snow-covered peaks and forms the westernmost shrine of the Char Dham circuit.
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Yamuna is the daughter of Lord Surya (the Sun God) and the sister of Yama, the God of Death. It is believed that taking a holy dip in the waters of the Yamuna and offering prayers at Yamunotri grants spiritual purification and protects devotees from untimely death.
The present temple was originally built during the 19th century and has been reconstructed several times following damage caused by natural calamities, while preserving its spiritual significance.

Jamunabai Kund
Before entering the temple, many devotees take a holy dip in Jamunabai Kund, a natural thermal water tank located near the shrine. The warm water is believed to possess medicinal properties and is considered sacred before offering prayers at the temple.

Surya Kund
One of the unique attractions of Yamunotri is Surya Kund, a natural hot water spring with temperatures reaching nearly 90°C.
Pilgrims traditionally tie rice or potatoes in a small cotton cloth and immerse them in the boiling spring water. Within a few minutes, they are cooked naturally and later offered to the Goddess before being taken home as sacred Prasad.
This fascinating natural phenomenon has attracted pilgrims for centuries and remains one of the most memorable experiences of the Yamunotri pilgrimage.

Divya Shila
Before entering the temple, devotees pay their respects at Divya Shila, a sacred rock pillar situated near Surya Kund. Worshipping Divya Shila before seeking darshan of Goddess Yamuna is considered an important ritual and an integral part of the pilgrimage.

The Source of the River Yamuna
Although the actual source of the River Yamuna lies at the Champasar Glacier, approximately one kilometre beyond Yamunotri at an altitude exceeding 4,400 metres, the difficult terrain makes it inaccessible for most pilgrims. Therefore, devotees offer prayers at Yamunotri Temple itself, which is revered as the symbolic origin of the sacred river.

After completing your darshan and spending time amidst the tranquil Himalayan surroundings, begin your descent back to Janki Chatti.
Upon arrival, meet your driver and proceed back to Barkot, enjoying once again the beautiful mountain scenery along the way.

Today's journey is relatively shorter, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan scenery at a relaxed pace. The road winds through picturesque valleys, dense pine forests, charming mountain villages and terraced farmlands. Prakateshwar Mahadev (Shiv Gufa)
En route, visit the revered Prakateshwar Mahadev Temple, popularly known as Shiv Gufa, located near Nagar Mehar village.
Unlike most temples, this naturally formed limestone cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for its naturally occurring Shiva Lingam. The cave is adorned with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over thousands of years through natural mineral deposits. Kashi Vishwanath Temple
Later visit the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the oldest and most revered temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in Uttarakhand.

Kalp Kedar Mahadev Temple
Near Harsil, visit the sacred Kalp Kedar Mahadev Temple, an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Nestled amidst tranquil forests and surrounded by majestic mountains, the temple is a peaceful place where pilgrims often pause to seek blessings before proceeding to Gangotri.

Gangotri Temple
The beautiful white granite Gangotri Temple was built during the 18th century and is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the most sacred river in Hinduism.
According to Hindu mythology, King Bhagirath performed years of intense penance to bring the heavenly River Ganga down to Earth so that the souls of his ancestors could attain salvation. To protect the earth from the tremendous force of the descending river, Lord Shiva received the mighty Ganga in his matted locks before gently releasing her onto the earth.

As you leave Uttarkashi, travel through picturesque mountain roads lined with pine forests, charming villages and terraced fields. The route passes alongside the mighty Bhagirathi and later the Mandakini River, whose crystal-clear waters accompany you on your journey towards one of Hinduism's most revered pilgrimage destinations.

Scenic Himalayan Drive
Today's route introduces you to some of Uttarakhand's most beautiful mountain landscapes. As you travel deeper into the Garhwal region, you will witness the changing character of the Himalayas—from forested hillsides and fertile valleys to dramatic cliffs and snow-fed rivers.

Witness the Sacred Prayags
One of the highlights of today's drive is witnessing the sacred river confluences, known as Prayags, where holy rivers meet to form larger streams. Depending on your travel route and timing, you may pass through or near some of these revered confluences:
Devprayag – Where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers merge to form the sacred River Ganga.
Rudraprayag – The confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, associated with Lord Shiva.
These holy confluences are not only geographically significant but also hold immense religious importance in Hindu tradition.

Arrival in Guptkashi
By evening, arrive in Guptkashi, a beautiful Himalayan town located at an altitude of approximately 1,320 metres above sea level.
Meaning "Hidden Kashi", Guptkashi holds great religious significance. According to Hindu mythology, after the Kurukshetra War, the Pandavas sought the blessings of Lord Shiva to absolve themselves of their sins. However, Lord Shiva wished to avoid them and concealed himself at Guptkashi before eventually appearing at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. This legend makes Guptkashi one of the most important spiritual destinations on the route to Kedarnath.
The town offers spectacular views of the snow-clad Chaukhamba Peak, one of the highest and most magnificent peaks in the Garhwal Himalayas. During sunrise and sunset, the golden rays illuminating the mountain create an unforgettable sight.

Visit Ardh Narishwar Temple (Time Permitting)
If time permits, visit the ancient Ardh Narishwar Temple, one of Guptkashi's most significant religious landmarks.

Guests travelling by helicopter should reconfirm their reporting time and carry valid identification along with the required documents.

Today is the most significant and spiritually rewarding day of your Char Dham Yatra as you embark on the pilgrimage to Kedarnath, one of the Twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and the most revered shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas.
Begin your day before sunrise with an early breakfast and proceed towards Sonprayag, the last point accessible by private vehicles. From here, board the local shuttle service to Gaurikund, the traditional starting point of the Kedarnath trek.
Pilgrims travelling by helicopter will be transferred to the respective helipad as per their scheduled reporting time.
As you prepare for today's journey, the majestic Himalayan landscape, fresh mountain air and devotional atmosphere create a sense of excitement and spiritual fulfilment unlike any other.

Gaurikund – The Beginning of the Sacred Trek
Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,980 metres, Gaurikund is named after Goddess Parvati (Gauri), who is believed to have performed intense penance here to win Lord Shiva as her consort.
Before beginning the trek, pilgrims often visit the Gauri Temple and seek blessings for a safe and successful pilgrimage.
The trekking route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath has been beautifully reconstructed with improved pathways, resting shelters, medical facilities and refreshment points, ensuring a comfortable experience for pilgrims.
Throughout the trek, the roaring Mandakini River, cascading waterfalls, snow-fed streams and towering Himalayan cliffs accompany you, making the journey both spiritually uplifting and visually spectacular.
For pilgrims unable to undertake the trek, Pony, Palki and Pithu services are available on direct payment.

Arrival at Kedarnath
After completing the trek or helicopter journey, arrive at the sacred town of Kedarnath, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,583 metres above sea level.
Nestled amidst towering snow-covered Himalayan peaks and surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, Kedarnath is one of India's most revered pilgrimage destinations. The serene atmosphere, crisp mountain air and continuous chants of "Har Har Mahadev" create an unforgettable spiritual experience.
After reaching the temple town, check in to your guest house or camp (subject to package inclusion) and take some time to rest before proceeding for darshan.

Kedarnath Temple

The Return Trek

Near Joshimath lies Vishnuprayag, where the Alaknanda meets the Dhauliganga River. This sacred confluence is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the five holy Prayags of Uttarakhand.

Joshimath – Gateway to Badrinath
En route, pass through the historic town of Joshimath, one of the four important monasteries established by Adi Shankaracharya.
Situated at an altitude of around 1,890 metres, Joshimath serves as the winter seat of Lord Badrinath, where the deity is worshipped during the winter months when the Badrinath Temple remains closed due to heavy snowfall.

Joshimath
Your first major stop is the sacred town of Joshimath, an important religious and cultural centre of Uttarakhand.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,890 metres, Joshimath is one of the four sacred monasteries (Jyotir Math) established by Adi Shankaracharya during the 8th century. During the winter months, when heavy snowfall closes the Badrinath Temple, the idol of Lord Badri Narayan is ceremonially shifted to Narsingh Temple in Joshimath, where worship continues until the temple reopens in summer.
