These thirty rock-cut caves served as monasteries and prayer halls for Buddhist monks, who transformed solid rock into magnificent sanctuaries adorned with exquisite sculptures and paintings.

The caves are celebrated for their remarkable murals depicting the life of Buddha, royal courts, celestial beings, and scenes from the Jataka Tales. Highlights include the graceful Flying Apsara in Cave 17, the serene image of the Preaching Buddha in Cave 16, and the beautifully sculpted Nagaraja figures. After breakfast, visit the magnificent Ellora Caves, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India's greatest archaeological treasures.

The complex comprises 34 remarkable rock-cut caves carved between the 6th and 10th centuries AD, representing the harmonious coexistence of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. The caves are renowned for their extraordinary craftsmanship, intricate carvings, and architectural ingenuity.

Among the highlights is the awe-inspiring Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), a monolithic masterpiece carved entirely from a single rock. Considered one of the world's most remarkable engineering achievements, the temple took more than a century to complete and is adorned with intricate sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

Other notable caves include the Buddhist Vishvakarma Cave, often referred to as the “Carpenter's Cave,” the impressive Dhumar Lena Cave dedicated to Lord Shiva, the beautifully sculpted Rameswara Cave, and the exquisite Jain Cave 32 (Indra Sabha), celebrated for its elegant carvings and artistic detail.

A scenic ferry ride from the iconic Gateway of India takes you to Elephanta Island, a peaceful retreat set amidst the waters of Mumbai Harbour. Originally known as Gharapuri, the island was renamed by the Portuguese after discovering a large stone elephant sculpture near its shore.

The island's principal attraction is its impressive cave temple complex dating between the 5th and 8th centuries AD. Later, return to Mumbai and continue with a city tour showcasing some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
