Leh, situated at an altitude of 3,524 m or 11,562 ft. is the joint capital and largest city of Ladakh, a union territory of India. Leh was also the historical capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh and for centuries an important stopover on trade routes along the Indus Valley between Tibet, Kashmir, India and China.

All visitors are required to rest for the first 24 hrs of arrival to get acclimatized to the high altitude of Ladakh. In the evening if your health permits, you may take a walk through Leh town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.

Day 02 Leh If you are an early riser, there is a beautiful opportunity to visit Thiksey monastery for morning prayer session of the resident monks. You’ll have to start from the hotel by 06 AM with packed breakfast to reach Thiksey (17 kms/20 Min) on time for the morning prayers. Later enjoy your packed breakfast with a hot tea or coffee at the monastery café.

Post breakfast Drive to Hemis monastery to visit one of the most famous monasteries of Ladakh.  Later drive to Stok Village and visit Stok Palace & Museum. Lunch will be with a local family. Enjoy the local cuisine which is very hard to find these days in Leh. After enjoying your time with the family visit their 300-year-old house which is now converted to a private museum. Later

Day 03 Leh – Uletokpo After breakfast drive to Uletokpo (85 Kms / 03 hrs) Enroute visiting Spituk Monastery, Magnetic Hill, and Likir monastery, which houses one of the biggest open air statue of Maitriya Buddha. Continue drive to Uletokpo, with a stopover visit to 1000 year old Alchi monastery. Arrive Uletokpo around lunch time. Post lunch hike toMangyu Village (02 Hrs one way).

Arrive Mangyu village and visit a local household for evening tea and snacks. Spend the evening with the family interacting about their livelihood and the way of life. Dinner and overnight stay at Uletokpo.

Day 04 Uletokpo – Lamayuru – Leh After breakfast drive to Lamayuru monastery (40 Kms / 01 hr.) after visiting the monastery drive back to Leh (120 Kms / 03 hrs)   On the way back visit a local Amchi, practitioner of a traditional medicine system in Ladakh. Amchis have a deep knowledge of the local Himalayan herbs, climatic conditions, and spiritual aspects of healing.

They provide free medical treatment to the people in remote and isolated villages of Ladakh, where modern health care is not easily accessible.

Amchi medicine system is based on Tibetan ayurvedic medicine and uses mainly plant sources. It is one of the oldest and well-documented medical traditions of the world. However, this system faces challenges posed by modernization, globalization, and loss of traditional knowledge. Some Amchis are trying to preserve and promote their ancient medical technique and sustainable health care system.

Reach Leh in the evening and relax at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Leh.

Day 05 Leh – Nubra After an early breakfast at the resort say good bye to your hosts at Nimmu house and start the mesmerizing journey to Nubra Valley. A journey of 180 kms tracing an important part of the ancient Silk Route.

The route’s gateway to the Shyok and Nubra Valley, the Khardungla Pass is strategically a very important landmass for the country. Famous for being the highest motorable pass with an elevation of 5359 metres, the pass is a favourite spot among the bike riders and adventure lovers. The pass has mighty mountains on both of its sides, which further offer the most dramatic views one can imagine.

Arrive your resort in Nubra valley where a gastronomical feast awaits you. Enjoy your farm to table lunch prepared by the chefs at the resort.

After relaxing a while at the resort start the hike to Hunder Sand Dunes situatedat 07 kms from the Resort.

Hunder is famous for its silver white sand dunes and double humped Bactrian camels. It is unbelievable, when one thinks of it, that a desert could exist at so high an altitude! Equally surprising is the sight of the Bactrian camels, whose two humps enable them to develop resistance to cold, drought & high altitudes.

Taking a ride on these double humped camels which gently make their way among the white sand dunes, with poplar trees dotting the landscape & the pleasing murmur of the RiverShyok flowing nearby, it all makes for a memorable experience.

As the evening approaches, and the barren mountains are covered with the crimson hues of the sun, you wonder how such a place could exist in this mad chaotic world of ours.

Return to your resort for dinner under the star studded sky.

Day 06 Nubra – Explore the hidden gems of Nubra Valley After an early breakfast drive to Sumur village (60 kms) and start the trek to Yarab Tso lake.

Yarab Tso Lake is located in the Panamik village in the Nubra Valley. On the banks of this beautiful lake, you can feel peace amidst the natural views of the lake. The heavenly Yarab Tso Lake is frequently alluded to as “the hidden lake” and is also the best-kept secrets of the region in Ladakh. Situated close to the Sumur Village, this beautiful lake can be reached only by a 20-minute hiking up the hill.

The charming lake with perfectly clear water, set in the midst of the contrasting rocky surroundings makes it a genuinely awesome site.

Later, continue the day’s sightseeing and visit the biggest petroglyph site of Ladakh in Nubra Valley

The rock engravings are scattered between Sasoma and the Degar/Tangyer areas.  This whole area falls on the most important and long-established Silk Route linking Srinagar, Leh and Yarkand.  Most of these engravings show striking similarities with those in other parts of Ladakh. The ibex is the most common of all  and other wild animals include members of the ungulate family (wild sheep).

Domestic animals include dogs, camels, horses, sheep etc. Hunters are more often portrayed individually than in groups. On the religious front, we often see the stupa in various stages of development. The social aspects include people dancing with various musical instruments

Most of this art is fashioned in a naturalistic manner without much stylistic representation. The bodies of the animals vary from single line profiles, to completely pecked bodies. The pictures range in size from a few inches to a couple of feet. Only at a few places is there a superimposition of figures.

Enjoy Picnic lunch near the dunes.

Visit rarely visited Charasa village with Fort and ruins.

The ruins are situated near Sumur village in the vicinity of the monastic compound.  This village was once the winter palace of king of Ladakh. We could see the ruins of the majestic palace on the eastern side of the village, surrounded by the Siachen River on one side and rows of Stupa on other.

Hardly any tourist make a visit to this village as it remains cut off from other part of the valley by overflowing river. This village’s soil is rich in iron. In olden days, iron materials were being supplied from here to entire Ladakh region; therefore, literal meaning of Charasa is Iron- ore soil village.

Optional – soak in the hot springs of Pananmik

Return to your resort for dinner & bonfire under a star studded sky

Day 07 Nubra – Leh Drive Back Leh once again crossing the mighty Khardungla pass. Arrive Leh and relax at the hotel.
