 Shimla

Dharamshala

Set against the backdrop of the dramatic Dhauladhar mountains, Dharamsala is perched on the high slopes in the upper reaches of Kangra Valley. The town is divided into two distinct and widely separated sections, Upper and Lower Dharamsala, which differ almost a thousand metres in height. We will be staying in Upper Dharamsala or Mcleodganj. Arrive Mcleodganj and transfer to Hotel. Evening free to explore the town.

Manali

The historic town of Mandi (800 m) is built along the banks of the river Beas. It has long been an important commercial centre and the sage Mandva is said to have meditated here. This one time capital of the princely state of Mandi is a fast developing town that still retains much of its original charm and character. Today, it is a district headquarters. Mandi is renowned for its 81 old stone temples and their enormous range of fine carving, it is often called the ‘Varanasi of the Hills’.  Drive through the small markets and villages, well worth the time the moment you cross Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu and other small markets. And start the run up along side the RIVER BEAS to Manali. The first sight of the Icy Mountains cradling this picturesque township in their fold seems so inviting that the foot on the accelerator gets a shade firmer. And the rumbles in your tummy no longer care for sickness but excitement.

Mussorrie

Mussoorie is located in the Garhwal hills. Due to its immense natural beauty, Mussoorie is known as the queen of hill stations. In 1820 Captain Young from the British army was influenced by the beauty of this place and made this place his residence. This marked the foundation of a hill station called Mussoorie. The name, Mussoorie, is derived from plants of ‘Mussoorie’ which were found in abundance here. After its discovery, this hill station gradually developed as a center of education, business, tourism and beauty.

Mussoorie is located at a height of 2,500 meters in the green Himalayan range. Due to its location and beauty Mussoorie is considered as the best hill station in the northern region. The modern bungalows, malls and well laid gardens which are located on the small hills around the area are enough to attract any tourist.

Mussoorie is an excellent respite for tourists and people who want relief from the hot sultry conditions of the plains. Nature has gifted Mussoorie everything which makes a place beautiful. With the onset of summers tourists start coming here.

As heat increases in the plains number of tourist inflow also increases proportionately. Mussoorie is very close to Delhi, its overnight journey and one can return in one day . So, some people come here to spend their week ends. Also, the major Hindu pilgrimages like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Haridwar, Rishikesh are not far from this place.

Joshimath

Joshimath is a hill station located at an altitude of 6,000 ft in the Chamoli district of Garhwal Division in Uttaranchal. It lies in the mountain slopes above the rivers Alaknanda and Dhauliganga.

Sight Seeing

Joshimath is a mesmerizing place with lovely and eye catching views of the snow mountains, greenery and pleasant weather conditions. Joshimath is also known as Jyotirmath. It is one of the four great ‘maths’ established by the Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. There are several ancient temples for the tourists to pay visit. The town is the winter abode of Lord Badri, who is brought down from Badrinath to the Vasudeva Temple at Joshimath somewhere around the festival of Deepawali. At a distance of 16 km from Joshimath is the Auli. It is one of the few places in India offering winter sports like Ice Skiing. One has to go to Auli by a ropeway from Joshimath. The Nanda Devi National Park is 23 km away from the town of Joshimath. One can trek to the park, which abounds in rare flora and fauna. The tourists can go to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Chopta, Valley of Flowers and Hem Kund sahib Gurudwara on excursion from Joshimath.

 Srinagar

Srinagar is located in the heart of the Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1,730 m above sea level, spread on both sides of the river Jhelum. The Dal and Nagin lakes enhance its picturesque setting, while the changing play of the seasons and the salubrious climate ensures that the city is equally attractive to visitors around the year. Kalhana, the author of ‘Rajtarangini’, states that Srinagri was founded by Emperor Ashoka (3rd Century BC). The present city of Srinagar was founded by Pravarasena-II, and Hiuen Tsang, who visited Kashmir in 631 AD, found it at the same site as it is today. Laltaditya Muktapida was the most illustrious ruler of Kashmir in the Hindu period, which ended in 1339 AD. King Zain-ul-Abidin (1420-70 AD), popularly known as ‘Budshah’, was a great patron of Sanskrit. Akbar captured Kashmir valley for the Mughals, who endowed Srinagar with beautiful mosques and gardens. The Sikhs overthrew the last Muslim ruler in the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1819. In 1846 the Dogras secured the sovereignty of Kashmir from the British under the Treaty of Amritsar, and in 1947 the state of Jammu and Kashmir with Srinagar as its capital, became part of the Indian Union.

Ooty

Ooty is the leading hill resort of South India. Situated in the heart of Nilgiris (Blue Mountains), at a height of 2,287 m (7,500 ft), it lies on a plateau and looks like a vast park. To the northwest of Ooty are splendid downs resembling those of Sussex, while to the west, south and southwest, lofty hills add to the grandeur of the scenery. Its climate is similar to summer in England. The terraced Botanical Gardens, which are a landmark in Ooty, have many rare trees and flowering plants. There is a beautiful lake with boating facilities. Ooty is also known for its tea and coffee plantations and there are hundreds of tea estates in and around this hill resort

Munnar

Munnar is a magnificent hill station in the Western Ghats at about 5000 feet above sea level and is the major center of Kerala’s tea industry. It is surrounded by about 30 tea estates, amongst the highest in the world and a forest that is still rich in wildlife that continues to survive the increasing commercial use of the hills. The luxuriant forest is hung with pepper vines. The hills around Munnar are covered with the rare Neelakurunji plant giving it a wonderful look, especially when the flowers bloom to cover the entire mountain range. It is said that this exotic plant flowers every 12 years.

 Periyar or Thekkady

Periyar or Thekkady is located about 4 km from Kumili in Idukki district. The very sound of the name conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. Experience the crisp, cool air of the Western Ghats with an enchanting holiday. In the Periyar forests of Thekkady is one of the finest wildlife reserves in India, and spread across the entire district are picturesque plantations and hill towns that hold great opportunities for treks and mountain walks.

Darjeeling

Darjeeling is situated at an altitude of 7000ft and is a tourist paradise. One can spend a few days here marvelling at the tea gardens with the backdrop of the Khanchendzonga range or the many lovely sites in and around this town with a lot of character.

 Gangtok

Gangtok is the capital city Sikkim, the second smallest state of India. Famous for its many important monasteries, and for the picturesque views of the Himalayas, Gangtok is one of the important hill-station of the country. In Gangtok you can see a smooth blend of both tradition and modernity. Located at an altitude of 1547 m above sea level, Gangtok houses some of the important Buddhist religious sites too. The existence of the peaceful Chortens or Stupas, old monasteries and the un-spoilt natural beauty of Gangtok offers you a truly unique traveling experience.
